What kind of person takes kids camping....
I am not a camper. I am sure that there are people out there who LOVE to camp. Me, not so much. I mean we tried it once, two years ago back in South Carolina…
Picture it, Devils Fork State Park in South Carolina… June….102°…at night. For summer vacation we decided to go on a week long trip to visit many of the beautiful SC state parks and become Ultimate Outsiders. This was to be our kick off at one of our favorite State Parks.
Anyway, I head up by myself with the kids (who magically multiplied from 4 to 7… kids multiply in the summer when you are a mostly stay-home-mom). Get there around lunch time, and with my mad camping skills, ruining two pots in the process managed to crank out some beef ramen and chicken nuggets. Kids were satisfied.
I did get everything out of the car, made a halfhearted attempt at putting up the tent, and dealt with 7 kids and the two dogs that would die of boredom if we left them home. When my husband got there at 7:30 and helped me take the heaviest canoe they had to rent at outdoor recreation and paddle around a little in lake.
We crawled in bed around 8:30, dogs barking at everything, temps still in the high 90’s…. By 9:15 everything was loaded in the car and we were gone. Moral of the story… Our family does not camp…
So
fast forward years…. I think alzheimer’s started early for me, cause I done
flipped my lid. We try it again…We went up to Lake
Kachess in the Wenatchee National Forest.
It went better…We even stayed three nights, although I have to give
credit to #auntchuck and #unclerico their jeeps, drone, and ham radios J.
Now,
if you are looking for something to do with kids, go to Lake Kachees, stay in
Box Canyon, in the site next to the host, and ask that host to tell you a story….
The one about the dragon. But be sure to check the weather, although in
Washington they seem to just guess…… If you have any sense at all you will wait till the story is over, kids will be riveted, and as soon as no one is looking get back in your car and drive to the nearest hotel... (and hour away in Seattle)...
